A Jet2 flight from Edinburgh to Tenerife South was given priority landing yesterday (Thursday) after a violent onboard incident in which a member of the cabin crew was allegedly assaulted.
According to Air Traffic Controllers, who reported the event on social media, a fight broke out on flight number LS739 during the journey, forcing the crew to request urgent medical support and the presence of police upon landing.
Controllers said they shortened the aircraft’s approach path as much as possible to ensure a swift landing while emergency teams prepared to meet the plane on the ground.
On arrival at Tenerife South Airport, medical personnel and police boarded the aircraft to assess the situation and assist those involved. For now, no further details have been released about the injuries suffered by the crew member or whether any passengers were detained.
Air Traffic Controllers expressed solidarity with airline staff and travellers who face “distressing situations” like these while flying, highlighting the growing concern over disruptive behaviour in the air.
Authorities are expected to provide updates once statements have been taken and the investigation progresses.
