Police intercept fishing boat in Canarian waters carrying 3,000 kilos of cocaine

Five crew members of a large fishing boat have been arrested in Canarian waters after a joint operation between the National Police, the Tax Agency, and the Guardia Civil, discovered that their boat was carrying 3,000 kilos of cocaine with a street value of 90 million euros, in one of the boats fuel tanks.

The detainees were taken to the Sanapú dock in Puerto de La Luz in Gran Canaria aboard the new Customs Surveillance patrol boat the "Condor", after officers boarded their fishing vessel to search it, and subsequently arrested them, and navigated it to Las Palmas.

The Condor entered the dock at 3.25pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday) where the bales of drugs were unloaded by a crane from the “Akt 1” fishing boat, and the arrested crew (four from Turkey and one from Georgia) were taken to be charged and handed over to the judicial authorities.
