A dangerous police chase across the northeast of Tenerife ended in an arrest this morning (Wednesday), after a repeat offender ran out of fuel and was forced to stop at a service station in El Sauzal.
The incident began in Valle de Guerra, in the municipality of La Laguna, when a Guardia Civil patrol from Tacoronte spotted a man they already knew from previous incidents. The 35-year-old is a resident of the San Juan neighbourhood in Tacoronte, and was driving a black car despite having no driving licence.
Officers turned around and began pursuing the vehicle. A quick check of the registration details confirmed that the car also had no compulsory insurance, adding another offence to the list.
The chase continued into Tacoronte, where Local Police officers joined the operation. The driver sped through several streets as he attempted to escape, but soon realised his fuel tank was nearly empty. He pulled into a petrol station in El Sauzal, where Guardia Civil officers detained him before he could attempt to flee again.
The man is reportedly a repeat offender with previous records for traffic-related crimes, including driving without a licence. Authorities are now processing the latest offences, which could lead to serious penalties given his history of similar violations.
