Police arrest 9 people in Las Americas and seize 5kg of marijuana in three cannabis clubs

The National Police have arrested nine people, aged between 24 and 40 years old, consisting of eight men and one woman, for using three cannabis clubs as a front to sell drugs to foreign tourists enjoying their holidays in the south of Tenerife.

Residents and other business owners brought the situation to the attention of the police, as they were concerned about how it was affecting their businesses and the area around them.

After interviewing the complainants, National Police investigators carried out all necessary procedures to verify the information they had been given.

Following the presentation of evidence obtained during the investigation to the judicial and prosecutorial authorities, officers were issued the corresponding search warrants to conduct raids on the properties where drug trafficking was allegedly taking place.

In a police operation set up for this purpose, searches were conducted in three cannabis clubs in Playa de las Américas, leading to the arrest of nine people on suspicion of committing a crime against public health, namely drug dealing.

Additionally, 5.5 kilograms of marijuana, 1 kilogram of hashish, 49 hallucinogenic mushrooms, and over 1,600 euros in cash were seized. The detainees, after providing their statements to the police, were handed over to the competent judicial authorities where they will face trial.

Cannabis clubs in Tenerife are legal, but they are only allowed to sell licenced amounts of marijuana and other narcotics on the premises to members of the club’s association so that sales and usage are regulated.
