A passenger plane blocked the runway at Tenerife North Airport this morning, Sunday, causing significant disruption to flight schedules and forcing multiple diversions.
The aircraft, an ATR arriving from La Palma, came to a stop on the runway after landing and was unable to move, according to air traffic control reports shared on social media platform X.
As a result, all take-offs and landings were suspended for more than 40 minutes. Six aircraft were forced into holding patterns, while at least five were diverted to Tenerife South Airport.
The incident sparked a ripple effect across the inter-island network, with delays and waiting times mounting throughout the morning.
Operations eventually resumed once the runway was cleared, and services have been returning to normal gradually.
