Excitement is building for the first edition of The Blue Challenge, an open water swimming competition between the beaches of Los Cristianos and Palm-Mar. With all spots filled and eager anticipation from participants, the event will feature competitive distances of 5km and 1.5km, alongside special categories for younger swimmers.

The challenge, which celebrates the natural beauty and family-friendly atmosphere of the municipality, was officially unveiled at the Arona Gran Hotel earlier today (Friday), offering attendees panoramic views of much of the course from the exclusive UP! level of the Spring Hotel.

The event is taking place this Sunday, November 10th, inviting swimmers to test their endurance and enjoy a unique connection with the sea.

The launch event was attended by several dignitaries including the Mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes, the Councillor for Sports, Luis Sierra, CEO of main sponsors, Spring Hotels, Miguel Villarroya, and world-renowned open water swimmer and honorary ambassador for the challenge, David Meca,

Luis Sierra expressed gratitude for the collaboration between various organisations, including the Tenerife Cabildo and Ideco, represented by Yolanda Moliné and Manolo Gómez, respectively. He highlighted the international nature of the challenge, saying, “This event will test the bravery and resilience of swimmers while offering them a unique connection with the sea and the stunning coastline of Arona.”

A New Iconic Sporting Event

Miguel Villarroya emphasised the significance of Tenerife and Arona as unique destinations for tourism and sports. He stated, “The Blue Challenge was conceived to highlight the beach of Los Cristianos while adding the appeal of linking it with El Palm-Mar through a maritime route.”

An Event for All Ages

The Blue Challenge is not only a competition but a celebration of community, nature, and sport. With categories for professional athletes and young swimmers alike, the event promises to draw a diverse crowd of participants and spectators, eager to witness the debut of this exciting new tradition in Arona.

If you fancy going along to watch and support the participants, the race starts at 10:30am from Palm-Mar and competitors will be finishing at Los Cristianos beach where you can go to watch.
