The Guardia Civil has seized over a hundred counterfeit luxury items during an inspection at a Sunday market in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Officers confiscated 112 fake products with an estimated market value of €106,000, including high-end watches, handbags and wallets.

According to the officers, the intervention forms part of a wider strategy to protect industrial property rights and prevent the sale of counterfeit goods, which harm both legitimate brands and unsuspecting consumers.

During the inspection, the Fiscal and Border Patrol Unit of Santa María de Guía, which is a team specialised in detecting this type of fraud, identified multiple fake watches being sold, including copies of Hublot and Tag Heuer models. The operation followed a formal complaint from the brands themselves, who alerted authorities to the sale of counterfeit products at the Santa Catalina market.

Officers also discovered a range of other imitation items, including wallets, bags, belts and metal badges carrying fake Louis Vuitton logos, as well as counterfeit goods from well-known brands such as Marc Jacobs and Goyard.

The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into one person for an alleged offence against industrial property, and the case has been passed to the duty court in Las Palmas.
