One-year-old baby found living on a rooftop in the south of Tenerife
A one-year-old baby boy has been declared in a state of neglect after authorities discovered that he was living on the rooftop of a building in the municipality of Arona, in the south of Tenerife, with his mother and her partner.
The Canary Police reported yesterday (Thursday) that they found the child and the couple living in extremely poor conditions on the rooftop with makeshift beds, a door as a table, and very little shade.
At the moment, the location of the building hasn’t been released, but according to reports shared on social media by the police, the three of them had been sleeping on the rooftop as they have nowhere else to live.
The case has now been referred to the Directorate General for Child and Family Protection and the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, who will take the necessary steps to ensure the well-being of the child.
It is a stark reminder of the situation that is currently occurring in tourist areas of the islands, as people are struggling to find affordable housing anywhere near to where they live.
