Granadilla de Abona Council is planning to replace the current beach kiosks at La Jaquita and El Cabezo beaches in El Médano with larger modern beach bars complete with outdoor terraces and public toilets.
The proposals form part of two new development projects for the popular coastal areas, which are currently on public display ahead of approval. The council says the existing kiosks are too small and will be replaced with upgraded, ready-built facilities designed for commercial and hospitality use.
Each new installation will include a main beach bar unit, a separate module with toilets and storage, and a pergola with an outdoor wooden terrace.
The new buildings will have a constructed area of around 31 square metres, alongside outdoor platforms of approximately 50 square metres, giving visitors more seating and improved facilities close to the beach.
According to the technical plans, the new beach bars will be fully prepared for connections to water, drainage and electricity supplies. They will also include accessible toilets for people with reduced mobility and will meet current regulations on accessibility, safety and fire protection.
The structures will be built using laminated wood and specially treated materials designed to withstand harsh coastal conditions, including humidity, corrosion and sea air exposure.
