Firefighters in La Laguna, Tenerife, have rescued a horse that fell around 15 metres into a ravine. The animal, which suffered only minor scratches, was brought to safety yesterday thanks to the combined efforts of emergency crews and local residents.
According to a statement, firefighters cleared a path down the slope using hoes and a chainsaw, allowing the horse to be guided back up to level ground. Once safe, the animal was examined and treated by a vet.
It was the most memorable incident handled by the Tenerife Fire Brigade on Thursday, 28th August, but not the only one.
Earlier in the afternoon, crews from San Miguel de Abona were called out at around 2:10 pm to tackle a car fire in Adeje, on Calle Galicia, just before the entrance to the motorway. The fire had started in the engine while the vehicle was moving. Local Police officers made an initial attempt to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived to put it out completely.
In a separate incident, firefighters from the Güímar station were called at around 12:40 pm following a three-car collision on the TF-1 near the Arafo industrial estate.
