The National Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in Tenerife after he breached a restraining order and broke into the apartment of his ex-partner, locked himself inside, and threatened to jump from the balcony with his three-month-old child if the police entered the house.
The incident occurred on Monday morning (March 25th) in the La Salud neighbourhood of Santa Cruz, when the man entered the apartment where his ex-partner, who he is judicially prohibited from approaching, was with their youngest child.
In a rage, he dragged his ex out into the corridor and locked himself inside the property with their baby and another family member.
After receiving an alert, the National Police were dispatched to the location given, where they went to the door of the apartment and urged the man to open the door and let them in.
He immediately refused and told them that if they tried to enter, he would jump off the balcony onto the street below with his 3-month-old baby.
Because of this, a police negotiator was brought in who engaged in dialogue with the man for several hours until finally convincing him to abandon his stance and peacefully surrender to the officers.
The man, who already has a criminal record, was then arrested for breaching a restraining order, unlawful detention, and trespassing, before being handed over to the competent judicial authority, who ordered his immediate imprisonment.
