A man was injured on Friday afternoon in the south of Tenerife after being stabbed during a fight between two homeless men in El Médano, one of the island’s most popular coastal areas. The incident happened at around 3 pm near the beach and the central square of the town.

A 28-year-old Dutch national, who is homeless, became involved in an altercation with another man in the area. During the struggle, the suspect allegedly used a corkscrew to stab the victim in the side.

Eyewitnesses say several bystanders quickly intervened and managed to restrain the attacker on the ground until officers from the Guardia Civil arrived. The arrest was carried out by members of the Citizen Security Unit (Usecic).

The victim was treated at the location given by emergency services before being transferred for further care. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening.

The Dutch man has been taken into custody and is facing charges of causing injury with a bladed weapon.

The attack caused alarm among residents and holidaymakers who were in the busy beach area at the time, and it is not an isolated case.

In recent months, there have been other disturbing incidents linked to people living rough in Tenerife. One of the most shocking events took place in July 2024 on Los Abrigos beach, when a fight between two homeless men turned violent in front of holidaymakers and families. The attack saw one man repeatedly strike the other with a parasol stick in broad daylight.

Although it was first reported as a dispute over theft, police later confirmed that both men involved were homeless and living in caves nearby, one of Austrian nationality and the other Dutch.
