A man in Gran Canaria is being investigated for allegedly distributing explicit photos and videos of his ex-partner without her consent, in what the Guardia Civil describes as a grave attack on her privacy and dignity.

The case is being handled by officers in Vecindario, and centres on a months-long campaign of harassment between December 2025 and January 2026. The victim went to the police claiming her former partner had launched a smear campaign against her, sending intimate material to others and using it to intimidate and humiliate her.

Investigators say the man was driven by jealousy and shared the sexual content with a third person, who turned out to be the woman’s previous partner. The images had been taken in private settings during their relationship, and at no point was their circulation authorised.

Police analysed a large amount of digital evidence, including WhatsApp and Telegram messages in which the suspect insulted the victim and shared the sensitive material. A breakthrough came when a witness confirmed they had received the explicit content without wanting it, and that the suspect repeatedly contacted them to dig for personal information about the woman.

When officers attempted to reach the suspect, he initially tried to avoid responsibility, claiming he was working off-island. The Guardia Civil persisted, and the strength of the evidence eventually forced him to appear at their headquarters, where he was formally notified of the charges under investigation.

The case file has now been submitted to the Tribunal of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

Authorities warn that sharing intimate images without consent is not only a crime but a form of psychological violence designed to socially destroy the victim. Once leaked, the material can circulate endlessly online, causing lasting emotional harm.

They urge anyone facing similar abuse to report it immediately so that the spread of illegal content can be stopped as quickly as possible.
