A young man is in critical condition after falling approximately 20 metres in a remote and difficult-to-access area of the Barranco de Badajoz in the municipality of Güímar, in Tenerife.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon (Monday) and led to a complex and high-risk rescue operation due to the steep terrain and the severity of his injuries.
According to reports from Güímar Local Police, the injured man was stabilised at the scene by SUC medical personnel before being airlifted by helicopter to Los Rodeos Airport, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to the HUC Hospital, where he was admitted with multiple severe injuries and remains in critical condition.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether the man was hiking or taking part in another activity, such as abseiling or rock climbing, when he fell. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
Barranco de Badajoz, known for its natural beauty and steep, narrow paths, is a popular destination for hikers, but its rugged terrain can pose serious risks for the unprepared or unwary.
