A 44-year-old man has been found dead at the bottom of a ravine in Tenerife, prompting a major response from the emergency services. The incident occurred late on Tuesday morning near Calle Almáciga, close to the coastal hamlet of Benijo in the north of the island.

The alarm was raised at 10:30am when a relative contacted the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), reporting that the man had been located in the ravine but was unresponsive. Given the steep and rugged nature of the area, emergency teams were immediately dispatched.

SUC medical personnel reached the scene but were unable to do anything other than confirm the man’s death. Firefighters then undertook the challenging task of retrieving the body from the ravine, a process that required specialist equipment due to the difficult access and uneven terrain.

Both the National Police and Local Police were present, assisting in securing the area and supporting the rescue teams. They also initiated the standard investigative procedures to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this stage, no further details about how the man came to be in the ravine have been released.

The area around Benijo is known for its dramatic landscapes and winding roads, and while investigations continue, authorities have reminded residents and visitors to exercise caution when travelling through isolated or steep zones.
