A man has been caught on camera throwing furniture from the roof terrace of his home in Arrecife, prompting a firm response from the local council, which has condemned the act as both dangerous and unacceptable.
The footage shows large household items being hurled into an empty plot of land next to the property.
Jacobo Lemes, the Councillor for Street Cleaning, said the incident poses a clear risk to public safety and is a serious breach of civic responsibility. “This sort of behaviour is completely out of order. It puts people in danger, harms public hygiene, and shows a total disregard for the community,” Lemes said.
He reminded residents that the council offers a free bulky waste collection service, which can be arranged by calling 928 815 560. He also pointed out that security cameras are in place across Arrecife to help identify this kind of behaviour and take appropriate action.
“What’s frustrating is that there’s no excuse. Dumping rubbish in public spaces, or worse, throwing it from a rooftop, is simply not acceptable.”
The incident comes as Arrecife continues its awareness campaign, “Dumping Bulky Waste on the Street Could Cost You Dearly”, which highlights the legal consequences of fly-tipping. Fines for these offences range from €400 to €4,000 depending on the severity.
