A man is in critical condition after being pulled from the sea in cardiac arrest at Playa de Las Vistas in Los Cristianos, south Tenerife, at around 6.5opm yesterday (Thursday).

According to reports, the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert reporting that lifeguards had rescued a man from the water after he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest caused by swallowing a large amount of water while in the sea.

Lifeguards immediately began CPR manoeuvres on the beach before SUC emergency medical teams arrived at the scene to take over and continue treatment.

Fortunately, they managed to revive the man and stabilise him before transferring him in a critical condition by advanced life support ambulance to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria.

Officers from the National and Local Police also attended the scene and assisted emergency crews during the rescue operation.

No further details about the man’s identity or the circumstances surrounding the incident have yet been released.
