Man dies after being rescued from the sea at Fañabe Beach in south Tenerife

A male holidaymaker in his 80s has died after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest while swimming at Fañabe Beach, located in Costa Adeje, in the south of Tenerife.

The incident occurred at 11:57am yesterday (Thursday), with emergency services unable to revive him despite multiple attempts at resuscitation.

Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts

The beach’s lifeguards were the first to respond, pulling the man from the water and immediately notifying the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

Upon realising that the victim was in cardiorespiratory arrest, they initiated basic CPR procedures while awaiting medical assistance.

When paramedics arrived at the beach they continued with advanced resuscitation efforts, but their attempts were unsuccessful. Sadly, they could only confirm the man's death at the scene.

Police Involvement and Investigation

Officers from the National Police and Local Police were present at the site, assisting emergency responders and managing the situation. Authorities have since launched an investigation to compile an official report on the circumstances surrounding the incident, pending autopsy results.

This tragic event highlights the ongoing risks associated with conditions on the coast at this moment in time. Beachgoers are reminded to remain vigilant and to seek assistance immediately if they experience difficulty in the water.
