A 28-year-old man has been arrested at the Port of La Luz in Las Palmas, after Guardia Civil officers found more than 32 kilos of hashish hidden in his car.

The drugs were discovered during a routine inspection of passengers arriving by ferry from Fuerteventura. Officers said the man’s vehicle was flagged after it made a series of suspicious manoeuvres as it left the ship.

A search uncovered dozens of packages of hash stashed inside the car doors and beneath the windscreen drainage system. In total, police seized 32.25 kilos of the drug.

He was immediately arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking, and both the car and the drugs were confiscated. The case has been passed to a judge in Las Palmas who has ordered the suspect to be held in provisional custody.
