The National Police have arrested a 61-year-old man, with a criminal record, in the south of Tenerife, on suspicion of being in possession of illegal firearms and live ammunition ready for use.
The investigation into the suspect began in February last year after National Police officers seized over 1,200 cartridges from the man who lives in La Camella in Arona. However, he was released as no firearms were found during searches.
Even though this was the case, investigators continued their inquiry, eventually locating storage units that the man rented. After getting a warrant to search these, they discovered 9 firearms (7 handguns and 2 rifles), 3 blank-firing pistols, two bladed weapons, and over 150 bullets of various calibres, including 9mm Parabellum and .38 Special.
Because of this the man was arrested and taken into custody along with the seized weapons and ammunition. Judicial authorities have ordered his provisional detention in prison.
