Man arrested in south Tenerife for attempted murder of wife found dead in police custody

A man arrested on Sunday for allegedly attempting to kill his wife in Granadilla in the south of Tenerife has been found dead in police custody. He was being detained at the Local Police station at the time of his death for attempted murder.

The Guardia Civil, who are overseeing the case, confirmed the man’s death but have not disclosed the cause.

Background of the Case

The suspect, a 42-year-old Italian man, was arrested following a violent domestic incident in which he allegedly attacked his 33-year-old Colombian partner with a knife.

The attack, which occurred in the presence of their one-year-old son, left the woman with serious injuries to her head and chest. She was taken to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The suspect reportedly attempted to take his own life using the same knife, inflicting cuts to his neck. He received medical attention before being taken into custody.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death in custody. The case has drawn significant attention given the severity of the alleged domestic violence incident and the involvement of a minor.

The death has raised questions about the suspect's detention conditions and whether sufficient precautions were taken to prevent further harm. Officials are expected to release additional information as the investigation progresses.

This incident underscores the pressing need to address domestic violence and the responsibility of authorities to ensure the safety of all parties, including suspects in custody.
