A 46-year-old Russian man has been arrested in Tenerife for allegedly practising veterinary medicine without proper qualifications, following an investigation by the National Police.

He is accused of professional misconduct after advertising veterinary services online and carrying out procedures on animals without a valid licence. He operated from his home in Garachico and also visited clients' properties, where he allegedly performed procedures including sterilisations in non-sterile, unhygienic conditions, posing serious health risks to the animals.

The investigation was launched in October 2024, after a complaint was filed by the College of Veterinarians of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Police confirmed that the man had been promoting himself on social media as a qualified vet, offering consultations and treatments across the island.

He was arrested on Monday, 7th July, and has appeared before a judge. As a precaution, he has been banned from leaving Spain while legal proceedings are underway.

The National Police remind the public that any suspicious or criminal activity can be reported, anonymously if preferred, via the ‘Colabora’ section of their official website: www.policia.es. All reports are handled confidentially.
