Man arrested after taking woman from bar and sexually assaulting her in Los Cristianos
A man has been remanded in custody after allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman in Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife. Police say the suspect took advantage of the victim after she became disoriented and briefly lost consciousness during a night out.
The incident happened on the night of 15th March in the San Telmo nightlife area of Los Cristianos, in the municipality of Arona. According to the National Police, the young woman became unwell inside a venue and fainted momentarily.
Investigators say the suspect approached the woman while she was vulnerable and falsely claimed to be her friend in order to remove her from the premises. Two members of the public who had initially tried to help the woman became suspicious after seeing the man leave with her.
Concerned for her safety due to her semi-conscious condition, the witnesses decided to follow the pair from a distance along the San Telmo seafront. Their actions are believed to have been key in preventing further harm and later helping police identify the suspect.
Following a formal complaint, officers from the Family and Women’s Care Unit launched an investigation. Detectives reviewed security camera footage from the nightlife venue and nearby businesses, while also gathering witness statements from the area.
Police say the footage and descriptions provided by witnesses allowed officers to trace and arrest the suspect. After appearing before the court, the man was ordered to remain in custody without bail while the investigation continues.
