The emergency services launched a major operation yesterday (Wednesday) after a paraglider fell into the sea off Puerto de la Cruz with aerial resources scouring the coastline.
According to reports from the emergency services, the incident occurred near the open area by the harbour esplanade, prompting alarm and curiosity among locals and visitors gathered in this busy seafront car park.
The search operation has involved the Fire Brigade, the National Police, Local Police, and medical teams from the SUC and Red Cross, in addition to aerial support.
Efforts were concentrated in the stretch of water directly off the town centre, where rough sea conditions complicated rescue work and slowing progress.
At present, there is complete uncertainty regarding the paraglider’s exact location. A witness at the scene told Diario de Avisos: “They don’t know exactly where he is; it doesn’t look good.”
The search will continue as conditions allow.
