The emergency services mounted a major response following a multi-vehicle accident on the TF-1 motorway in south Tenerife last night, Tuesday, in the Los Menores area of Adeje, on the north carriageway heading towards Santa Cruz.

Reports from the emergency services (CECOES) indicate that the collision occurred shortly after 9.00pm with at least two cars and a motorcycle involved in the accident.

The Fire Brigade were deployed to the scene alongside other emergency services after they received a 112 alert informing them of the accident.

Emergency operation extends into ravine

The response was not confined to the motorway itself, with firefighters carrying out operations in the ravine alongside the TF-1.

Investigators were working to establish the circumstances of the collision, including what happened to the motorcycle following the initial impact.

At this stage, it has not been officially confirmed whether the motorcycle or its rider left the carriageway as a direct result of the collision.

The number of people injured and the extent of any injuries had also not been officially confirmed in the initial information available.

Busy route through south Tenerife

The TF-1 is the principal motorway connecting Tenerife's southern resorts with Tenerife South Airport, Santa Cruz and other parts of the island.

The Los Menores section lies between Adeje and the island's south-western resorts and carries substantial volumes of local and tourist traffic.

Emergency incidents on this section can quickly cause disruption because of the volume of traffic using the motorway, particularly between the main tourist areas and the airport.
