The National Police have arrested one of the alleged main cocaine distributors operating in Lanzarote following a major anti-drug operation in the island’s capital, Arrecife.
In total, three people were arrested, two men and a woman aged between 40 and 48, all of whom reportedly have previous police records. They are being investigated on suspicion of crimes against public health for their alleged involvement in distributing drugs across the island.
The investigation began at the start of January after officers received an anonymous tip-off warning that one of Lanzarote’s key cocaine suppliers was operating in Arrecife.
According to police, the suspect had already been linked to a previous operation carried out in May 2025, when someone else was arrested while transporting four kilograms of cocaine and one kilogram of heroin.
Officers from the National Police then launched a surveillance operation, monitoring the suspect’s movements and contacts. During the investigation, they observed him frequently meeting with various people believed to be connected to drug trafficking.
On the day of the arrest, police received another anonymous call warning that the suspect was due to collect a significant shipment of cocaine. Officers immediately intensified surveillance around his home.
Investigators later saw the suspect leaving the property and travelling in a vehicle driven by another person, reportedly taking various precautionary measures while on the move.
A short time later, the pair returned to the house, but this time the suspect was carrying a heavy bag. Police moved in and stopped him, discovering six packages of cocaine weighing around seven kilograms inside the bag.
Following the discovery, officers obtained court warrants to search two homes and a business premises connected to the suspects.
During the searches, police seized a total of 11 kilograms of cocaine, €10,000 in cash, and four vehicles, including a high-end BMW in which part of the drugs were hidden inside a concealed compartment.
After the investigation was completed, the three suspects were brought before a judge. Two of them were ordered to be held in pre-trial detention, while the judicial process continues.
