Long traffic jams on TF-1 motorway in the south due to multi-car collision

A multi-vehicle collision on the TF-1 motorway near Las Chafiras in San Miguel de Abona, heading south, has led to significant traffic problems and large tailbacks this morning.

Preliminary reports indicate that one person needed medical attention from the Canarian Emergency Services (SUC), although their injuries are reported as non-life-threatening.

Authorities are urging all drivers in the area to exercise the utmost caution and budget for extra time on the journey. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Police advice on what to do in the event of an accident:

Request assistance via:
- Mobile phones or in-car by dialling the emergency number 112.

- Utilize "SOS" telephones located alongside the motorway.

- Seek help from other drivers.

- Turn off the engine of the involved vehicle. If unable to access the ignition key, disconnect the cables connected to the battery.

- Do not attempt to move injured individuals if there is no risk of fire or further harm. Wait for professional assistance to arrive.

In the case of fire risk, evacuate each injured person as follows:
- Stand behind the injured person. Insert your hands under their armpits. Grasp their chin with one hand and press it against their chest. With the other hand, grab their forearm and pull upward.

- If an injured person is bleeding heavily, cover the wound with a hand or fist and apply pressure with a cloth or tissue.

- If an injured person is unconscious, lay them on their side to prevent them from choking on their own tongue.

- If the injured person is a motorcyclist, do not remove their helmet and keep their head and torso on the same line.

For any emergency, call 1-1-2.
