La Jaquita Beach reopens in Southern Tenerife, while two others remain closed

La Jaquita beach in El Medano reopened to the public after receiving confirmation from a follow-up water quality test that the sea is safe for bathing.

According to the Granadilla Council, the counter-analysis showed all parameters within legally acceptable limits, deeming the water suitable for recreational use.

The beach had been temporarily closed on Tuesday after initial test results indicated the presence of contaminant levels exceeding the permitted thresholds.

Authorities stressed that the decision to restrict access was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety until further test results could confirm the water’s condition.

Two Beaches Still Closed in Adeje

Meanwhile, in the neighbouring municipality of Adeje, two popular beaches, Troya I and El Puertito, remain closed to swimmers. Troya I was found to contain elevated levels of E. coli, while Enterococci bacteria were detected in El Puertito, prompting the temporary bans.

The Adeje Council has conducted new water quality tests at both locations and is currently awaiting results. According to a statement released yesterday, Thursday, the beaches will reopen as soon as water quality is deemed safe for people to go into the water.
