Killer flies to Tenerife for a holiday before being arrested at UK airport

A young drug dealer fled to Tenerife for a week after fatally stabbing a 'much-loved' dad-of-two who allegedly had tried to rob him. Brandon Froggatt, from Derby, attacked Corey Duffy, 30, stabbing him four times in Cooper Street before escaping on an e-bike with the knife still in his hand.

The 21-year-old then flew to Tenerife for a week before being arrested at East Midlands Airport when he returned to the UK, as reported by the Derbyshire Police.

Following the attack, Mr Duffy managed to stagger back to the bail hostel where he was staying in Bass Street before collapsing and dying.

In a statement, Mr Duffy’s former partner, the mother of his sons aged nine and five, told how she “has never felt so lost in my entire life”, adding “he won't be there on parent's evening, to cheer them on at football, help them choose their first car, first house and be there when they get their dream jobs.”

The dispute took place on Sunday 11th June 2023 which is when Derbyshire police received a 999 call reporting that a man had been stabbed four times just after 3.45pm that afternoon.

Just minutes after the initial report, a second 999 call was received from Burdett Lodge probation hostel saying a man had collapsed with three stab wounds to his chest and one to his thigh, in the foyer.

He suffered serious injuries, and despite attempts to save him, including emergency surgery, he died at the hostel.

Froggatt, who was 20-years-old at the time, then left the country and went to Tenerife on holiday before he was arrested on his return by police at East Midlands Airport in the early hours of Wednesday 21st June.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter during a hearing at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday (12 March 2024), and was sentenced to nine years and two months’ imprisonment following a hearing on Friday (15th March) at Derby Crown Court.
