The Canary Islands have become a favourite destination for major Hollywood productions, with films like "Eternals," "Rambo: Last Blood," and "Jason Bourne" choosing the islands as their backdrop, attracting international stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Matt Damon, and Angelina Jolie.
Johnny Depp has been filming his latest movie in Tenerife, taking the opportunity to enjoy the archipelago's incredible cuisine. The film, "Day Drinker", is being directed by Marc Webb and features Penélope Cruz as his co-star.
However, while the crew maintained discretion during filming, Depp made a notable appearance at one of Santa Cruz’s most exclusive places to eat: Duke Restaurant.
Known for his role as Jack Sparrow, Depp surprised staff members by dining there as a regular guest. Lolo Crusellas, the restaurant's manager, shared a photo of the team with Depp on social media, captioning it: "With the great pirate Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp, excellent actor and good person," highlighting the pleasant atmosphere of the evening.
Duke Restaurant is part of the Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey Hotel, located on Calle Doctor José Naveiras. It evolved from the Kiki restaurant, initially specialising in Japanese cuisine, and expanded to include a fusion of Japanese and fresh Mediterranean flavours.
Chef Bernabé Gutiérrez leads the kitchen, expertly using local and imported ingredients to create innovative dishes. The menu ranges from sushi and nigiris to premium meats like exclusive wagyu and high-end products such as Riofrío organic caviar.
The dining experience is enhanced by the restaurant's thoughtful decor, which blends both cultural styles. It's no wonder this venue has charmed Depp and become a must-visit for those seeking the finest haute cuisine in Tenerife.
