January sales begin across the Canary Islands with big discounts for shoppers
One of the most anticipated shopping periods of the year, the January sales, officially began yesterday, Wednesday 7th January, bringing large discounts on fashion, technology, homeware and more, to both high street shops and online platforms.
Following Spain’s standard sales calendar, discounts are expected to run for several weeks, until around 6th March 2026 across the Canary Islands, making this an ideal time for residents and visitors to enjoy reduced prices.
Major fashion chains have spent days preparing shop windows and digital platforms for the campaign, and local retailers are preparing for what is expected to be a strong sales period. According to sector forecasts, consumer interest is high, with reductions covering everything from clothing and footwear to household goods.
Boost for jobs and the local economy
The January sales are also an important driver of temporary employment in the Canary Islands. Estimates suggest that several thousand short-term contracts will be created across the archipelago during this time, providing a welcome boost to the local economy.
Traditionally, one of the busiest times in the retail calendar, the sales attract not only local residents but also tourists keen to take advantage of post-Christmas bargains during their stay.
Retailers are hopeful that this year’s campaign will bring a strong flow of shoppers and help strengthen economic activity following a Christmas season described as “solid” rather than exceptional.
Returns also on the rise
This sales period also coincides with the first wave of Christmas gift returns after Kings Day. According to the consumer association Asescon, once the initial return window has passed, statistics suggest that around 50% of purchases are eventually returned.
Common reasons include items being the wrong size or not meeting expectations, or aesthetic preferences.
