Professional MMA fighter Sinead Kavanagh has been arrested for a second time in Gran Canaria, this time in Maspalomas, for an alleged incident of domestic violence against her wife, according to reports from Canarias 7.
The arrest took place on Saturday night, and the victim required medical attention at a health centre for injuries sustained during the incident. Kavanagh will remain in custody and is expected to appear before a judge today, Monday.
The Irish fighter was previously detained in November at Gran Canaria Airport after attacking two Guardia Civil officers on a Ryanair flight bound for Dublin.
The aircraft’s crew requested assistance due to her aggressive behaviour, forcing the pilot to abort take-off. Two officers were injured while attempting to restrain her.
Speaking on Canarias Radio’s programme De la noche al día, Juan Couce, spokesperson for the AUGC, confirmed that neither officer suffered broken bones.
He also noted that the Guardia Civil lacked adequate equipment to restrain someone with her physical capabilities and that one of the officers relied on martial-arts training to finally subdue her.
