A 55-year-old woman was airlifted to safety yesterday (Sunday) after suffering a fall while walking along the GC-200, on the Los Azulejos trail in Mogán, Gran Canaria.

The incident occurred at around 11:45am, when the 1-1-2 emergency control room received an alert reporting that a hiker required urgent assistance.

Due to the nature of the woman’s injury and the difficult terrain, the GES emergency helicopter was deployed. Crews located her, carried out the rescue, and flew her to the El Berriel aerodrome, where an SUC ambulance was waiting.

Medical personnel assessed the injured woman, who had sustained a ‘moderate’ lower-limb injury, before transporting her by ambulance to Hospitales Universitarios San Roque Maspalomas for further treatment.

Authorities remind hikers to take extreme care on mountain routes, particularly in areas with steep or unstable ground.
