How the Canaries has become the new Dubai for digital-nomads and crypto-bloggers

The world of crypto is one that fascinates. It offers the opportunity to make excellent money, but not always through the running of overly-complicated projects. In fact, many people enjoy the relative quietness and peacefulness of a life as a professional blogger, crypto or otherwise.

With its simple and straightforward tax system, the Canaries have beckoned to such individuals from all over the world. As a result, you can find plenty of bloggers and writers who freelance and have their residency on the Islands.

Writing is, in a sense, like you have to compete with other roulette players – you try to get the best gig while making sure that you are still flexible and have the opportunity to travel and see places, and frankly, who wouldn’t? Today, we explore how the Canaries have become such a great spot for this particular breed of digital nomads.

Crypto culture on the rise

You can actually pay in crypto on the Canary Islands

Part of the EU

Being in the EU means that you enjoy more legal and banking protections

Great co-working culture

You can make friends and visit many different venues to share and work with

Accessible food and housing

In comparative terms, the Canary Islands is still a rather cheap destination to visit and enjoy

1. The Canaries get access to the European Union

You may think that most people want to be in some far-flung places where they live in a state of tax lawlessness, but the fact is that the Canaries have one huge advantage going for them, they are part of the European Union’s legal and banking system which comes with more legal perks than you may immediately think of! For example:

  • Deposits are protected
  • You can transact money
  • It’s easier to prove the origin of funds

These may seem like small things, but trust us, much like you use a racetrack to make things generally easier for you when playing roulette, so is the bonus of residing in a place that is integrated with the European Union’s legal and banking system a boon to your personal wealth and financial management.

2. Lifestyle definitely helps

The Canary Islands are all about looks and lifestyle. Local businesses are fuelled by rich foreigners who come to visit or thriftier locals who have established themselves as digital nomads. Meals will, of course, vary, and you will have plenty of options to try.

The expat communities are great, too, bringing people together, but even if you don’t find “your people,” you can still very much join any of the existing communities because this is the way of the Canary Islands: everyone is welcome.

Accommodation is relatively cheap and especially so if you are only looking to live on your own, while you can still rent properties through Airbnb and Booking.com if you choose to or even make local acquaintances with landlords and see if they can’t offer you a better deal while cutting the middleman.

3. Let’s talk crypto–yes

There is another huge reason why all of this is happening: crypto culture is on the rise, and you can actually use cryptocurrencies to pay for stuff locally. This means that if you happen to work in the crypto sector, you can just as well pay in crypto transactions if you prefer to.

As you can figure out, the fact that so many people who work in the crypto industry are coming to live in the Canary Islands is definitely no coincidence. If anything, it’s the result of meticulous research, but also smart local planning.

After all, if the Canary Islands hadn’t adopted crypto to such an extent, they would not be the place they are today, a host of crypto companies and hundreds of employees are found locally.

4. Co-working and co-living are great

Another thing that still has to do with the work culture locally is that many people, even colleagues from the same firms from all over the world, decide to go and live in the Canary Islands. Of course, it is much easier for European residents to do so, but there is a reason why the islands attract people; they make it very easy to live here.

If you are European, you get an extra leg-up, of course, which is all that the European Union is all about. The co-working culture is great indeed, you can visit lots and lots of spaces and meet up with people, while enjoying a great internet connection and a fantastic opportunity to make acquaintances and even network!

All things considered, the Canary Islands are a fantastic place to be if you are looking to work and enjoy yourself, especially if you are a digital nomad or involved in the crypto industry.
