A swimmer in northern Fuerteventura made a surprising discovery after finding more than 10 kilos of hashish hidden inside a public bin on the coast, leading to a police response.

The incident happened in the municipality of La Oliva, where the man alerted authorities on Saturday, 4th April, after spotting what appeared to be the remains of a drug package.

Officers from the Local Police arrived at the beach and carried out a search, uncovering a total of 13 packages concealed inside the bin. The haul weighed approximately 10.5 kilograms and is believed to be hashish.

According to the local council, the drugs had likely washed ashore before being placed in the bin, although investigations are ongoing to determine their origin.

Police have praised the swimmer for raising the alarm quickly, highlighting how public vigilance plays a key role in preventing illegal activity.
