A 32-year-old woman has been rescued by helicopter after suffering a leg injury while hiking in the Barranco de Las Angustias on the island of La Palma.
The emergency unfolded on Saturday afternoon in a remote part of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. The Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) deployed a helicopter to the location given after the woman was reported injured and unable to continue her route.
Emergency services say she sustained a serious leg injury and was airlifted from the gorge by the GES rescue team. She was then flown directly to the helipad at La Palma University Hospital.
A waiting ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) then transported her to the hospital’s emergency department for further treatment. Her condition has not been disclosed, but officials confirmed the operation was carried out swiftly and without further incident.
