GOOD NEWS: The Tenerife fire is lowered to a Level Zero emergency

The Directorate General of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government, in response to a request from the Tenerife Cabildo, has decided to downgrade the emergency level of the Tenerife wildfire to zero due to more favourable weather conditions since the heatwave left the islands.

This decision affects the municipalities of Arafo, Güímar, Candelaria, El Rosario, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Victoria, La Matanza, Santa Úrsula, La Orotava, Los Realejos, and Fasnia, which will all have some restrictions imposed by the level of the emergency, lifted.

The Canarian government emphasizes that the wildfire is under control but not extinguished and that the weather conditions are favourable with an increase in relative humidity and a decrease in temperatures.

Additionally, over the past week, the tail end of storm 'Bernard' has brought rain to the affected areas, assisting in the firefighting efforts and cooling the ground. For the emergency services, news that the rains are set to return soon, is very good news!
