Fuerteventura Cabildo launches free drone pilot training for the public

The Fuerteventura Cabildo, through its Department of New Technologies, has launched an ambitious new programme offering free drone pilot training to the general public.

This initiative is designed to provide participants with the essential skills for safe and responsible drone usage, while also supporting them in obtaining official certifications required under Spanish and European regulations.

The training includes certification pathways for the A1, A2, and STS categories, essential for both recreational and professional drone use, which are aligned with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards.

The course consists of five training sessions, totalling ten hours, held in the afternoons from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in three key locations. From 26th to 30th May in Puerto del Rosario, from 2nd to 6th June in Morro Jable, and from 9th to 13th June in Gran Tarajal.

Structured to offer a blend of theoretical instruction and practical exercises, the course will cover a wide range of topics. Participants will be trained in legal regulations, drone operation and maintenance, flight planning, document management, and the certification process via digital certificates.

A strong focus will be placed on operational safety and various flight scenarios, including those in urban and restricted airspace. Attendees will also explore the professional applications of drone technology, including aerial photography, technical inspections, environmental monitoring, precision agriculture, and other emerging sectors.

Carmen Alonso, the Councillor for New Technologies, highlighted the importance of the initiative: "We are committed to making technology accessible and useful to the public. Drone piloting is not only an innovative tool but also a real opportunity to expand professional and personal horizons. This free training marks a step towards a more connected island, equipped and offering greater equality of opportunity in accessing knowledge."

In addition to improving technical skills, the programme also aims to promote responsible engagement with new technologies. It encourages participants to be informed, capable, and proactive in contributing to Fuerteventura’s digital development.
