Formula 1 star is coming to Tenerife to officially launch the Race Track project

The vice president of the Tenerife Cabildo and councillor for Roads, Enrique Arriaga, has announced today (Wednesday) that the Spanish F1 driver for Ferrari, Carlos Sainz, is coming to Tenerife to officially launch the project and present the schedule of works, for the Tenerife Race Track, alongside Moto Gps Carlos Checa.

Sainz, who won his first Formula 1 Grand Prix two weeks ago, will make the presentation next Tuesday from 7pm at the Tenerife Auditorium in Santa Cruz, to invited guests from the world of motor racing, 800 members of the public, and to the media, which includes, Antonio Lobato, a Spanish journalist famous in the world of motoring and Formula 1.

The project, which restarts this year in Atogo in the south of Tenerife after several decades of planning and delays, has a multi-year investment of 50 million euros until 2025.

The Tenerife Motor Circuit is highly demanded by motor fans in Tenerife, which is why the Cabildo wanted to give it a definitive boost, which has already materialized with the obtaining of approvals from both the FIA and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM).

The track is set to 4.05kms long with 16 corners, running in an anti-clockwise direction. It will be possible to reach maximum speeds of 200 miles an hour in cars and on bikes, with the slowest corner being between 50and 60mph.

However, not everyone is keen to have a circuit in the south, as environmental groups are taking advantage of the presentation to stage a protest outside the Auditorium, starting at 6pm, claiming that the project is unsustainable from an economic and environmental point of view.
