The emergency services were called to a shopping centre in Tenerife yesterday evening (Wednesday) after a fire broke out, seriously affecting a bank branch inside the building. According to footage shared on social media, the blaze mainly damaged the second floor of the Parque Santiago VI shopping centre in Playa de Las Américas, where a Banca March office is located.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the flames, with support from both the Guardia Civil and the Local Police.
Images from the scene show a white van positioned near the fire, which appears to have been moved as crews worked to make the area safe.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far, but the extent of the damage to the premises has yet to be confirmed.
This is the latest in a series of fire-related incidents in Tenerife in recent weeks, including a blaze in Granadilla that began in a parked car and spread to other vehicles.
And yesterday evening, firefighters were also called to the PIRS waste management complex in Arico, where flames spread through around 200 square metres of stored plastics and cardboard. The fire, which was brought under control this morning, produced large columns of smoke visible from several kilometres away and required an extensive operation to contain. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
For now, the cause of the Parque Santiago VI fire remains under investigation.
