Fire at children’s nursery in south Tenerife minutes after New Year’s bells
A children’s nursery caught fire in the south of Tenerife just minutes after midnight as the Canary Islands celebrated the arrival of the New Year, on Calle Montaña Grande in El Fraile.
While investigations are ongoing, early indications suggest the fire may have been caused accidentally by fireworks launched immediately after the New Year’s countdown.
The size of the flames and thick smoke startled nearby residents, who quickly called the 112 emergency service. Firefighters from the Las Chafiras fire station arrived within minutes and were able to contain the flames and extinguish the blaze before it spread.
Police officers from several units also attended the scene as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
