A woman accused of running a fake rental scam in Tenerife has been arrested by the National Police after allegedly defrauding victims of more than €10,000. Officers believe the true figure may be significantly higher, as many people are thought not to have filed official complaints.
The investigation began in December 2024, when several reports were filed describing the same pattern of fraud. The suspect allegedly posted fake rental listings on property websites and digital platforms, offering flats at attractive prices. She then arranged to meet prospective tenants in person.
During these meetings, she reportedly showed victims a video of the “property,” presented a bogus tenancy contract, and requested a cash payment for the deposit and reservation. Once she received the money, she handed over a key to the supposed flat.
However, when victims went to the address, they discovered the property either did not exist, was already occupied, or had never been available for rent. Attempts to contact the woman afterwards failed, as she immediately blocked all communication channels.
Aware that she was wanted by both the courts and the National Police, the woman allegedly took steps to avoid detection, using various methods of self-protection and concealment. This forced officers to carry out an extensive and detailed operation to track her down.
She was eventually located, arrested, and brought before the courts, where a judge ordered her immediate imprisonment.
