Dozens rescued as a migrant boat arrives at Los Cristianos dock
A makeshift boat, known as a cayuco, carrying nearly fifty people attempting to reach the shores of Tenerife, was rescued yesterday afternoon (Thursday) by Maritime Rescue, according to the emergency services.
The boat was spotted in the waters between Tenerife and La Gomera, with the rescue operation being carried out by the Salvamar Alpheratz rescue boat.
The rescued passengers of the cayuco were transported safely to the Los Cristianos dock in the south of Tenerife, where they disembarked at approximately 6:45pm and were met by the Red Cross and medical personnel.
After being assessed they were then taken to the Las Americas reception centre where they will be identified and then it will be decided what happens to them next.
