The Guardia Civil, through its Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), is investigating a woman in Granadilla, Tenerife, for alleged professional malpractice after discovering dental procedures being carried out in a dog grooming salon.
The operation began after officers received indications that a canine grooming centre might be engaging in practices outside its licensed activity.
Following the opening of formal proceedings, agents carried out an inspection of the premises.
During the visit, they found that dental cleaning procedures were being performed on animals without anaesthesia. They also discovered surgical instruments, gauze, bandages, and even medication intended for human use.
To clarify the findings, reports were requested from the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Science, which determined that the medicine found was not suitable for animals, and from a registered veterinarian, who confirmed that such procedures can only be legally performed by qualified vets and always under general anaesthetic.
As a result, the woman is now formally under investigation for alleged professional intrusion. In addition, three administrative complaints have been filed for breaches of animal health and protection laws, misuse of medicines, and carrying out unlicensed activities.
The Guardia Civil confirmed that the investigation remains open while all the collected documentation is reviewed.
