A dead dolphin was recovered from the shoreline of Bajamar on Saturday after firefighters from La Laguna and volunteers from Tegueste were urgently sent to El Arenal beach in San Cristóbal de La Laguna.

The alert came from the La Tahonilla Environmental Centre, which requested immediate assistance to move the stranded cetacean. When emergency teams reached the beach, they confirmed that the animal had already died and carefully transferred it to the roadside so it could be collected and examined by environmental specialists.

This year has seen several worrying cases of dead sea animals washing up on Tenerife’s coastline, raising concern among locals and environmental teams. In one of the most recent incidents in May this year, a young female sperm whale was found lifeless on a beach in Fasnia.

Conservation groups say problems such as illness, collisions with boats, and changing ocean conditions are leading to more animals washing up on the islands’ beaches.
