Dead body of a male tourist found in room at a holiday complex in Puerto Rico

A male tourist, believed to be of British or Irish nationality, was found dead with signs of violence yesterday (Monday) at a holiday complex in the town of Puerto Rico in the south of Gran Canaria, under circumstances that are currently being investigated by the Guardia Civil.

According to sources from the Las Palmas Command quoted by the Efe news agency, the judge in charge of the case has declared the proceedings secret meaning that details are limited at the moment.

The body was discovered by cleaning staff at the complex where the male tourist was staying, and authorities are investigating the incident as a violent death as the victim, a 32-year-old male tourist, had suffered a severe blow to the head.

Emergency services were notified of the discovery of the body at around 12:30pm yesterday, and urgently dispatched medical personnel, Local Police officers from Mogán, and the Guardia Civil to the location given.

The complex has been named as the Colina Mar Aparthotel in Puerto Rico, and the body was discovered by a cleaner who entered the room shortly after midday to clean and found the man in a pool of blood. Another person, also male and believed to be a friend of the deceased, was inside the apartment and appeared completely disoriented, according to eyewitness reports.

The origin of the blood appears to be from a severe blow to the head, and authorities are now trying to determine whether it was accidental or intentional. A doctor and a nurse from the Arguineguín Health Centre, who were taken to the scene by the police, examined the body and could only confirm the death of the tourist.

An investigation is ongoing and an autopsy will be performed to identify the cause of death before any official details of the man’s identity are released.
