Dead body found floating in the sea off Tenerife coast
Emergency teams from Maritime Rescue recovered the body of a deceased person from the sea yesterday, Monday, after it was spotted around 300 metres off the coast of Santiago del Teide, in southwest Tenerife.
Rescue crews were alerted to the sighting and were quickly dispatched to the location given. A beach lifeguard on a jet ski was deployed to retrieve the body from the water before transferring it to the Salvamar Menkalinan rescue boat, which then transported the deceased to shore at Playa de San Juan.
Once on land, local authorities took over and began the necessary legal and investigative procedures.
According to sources from the Guardia Civil, early indications suggest the deceased may be a foreign national who was living on the island. However, formal identification has not yet been confirmed.
After judicial authorisation, the body was taken for autopsy to determine the cause of death and for official identification. The incident remains under investigation.
