An environmental officer was injured after his vehicle crashed into a palm tree in La Laguna, causing disruption on a busy route out of the city.
The incident happened around midday today (Tuesday) on Camino Las Peras, a road commonly used to exit La Laguna towards the Vía de Ronda. The driver, who works for the local council’s environment department, was travelling in a municipal off-road vehicle.
Early indications suggest the crash may have been caused by a mechanical fault. The impact was severe, with the vehicle losing a wheel and leaving major damage to the front and right-hand side.
The officer sustained an injury to a finger but did not require major medical treatment. Local police attended the roadside and carried out an investigation into the incident.
The damaged vehicle was left blocking part of the road, leading to severe traffic delays in the area. Motorists were affected during the busy midday period as emergency services worked to clear the area.
