Canary Islands Government Issues Pre-alert for Rain in Tenerife

The Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert for rain in the north of Tenerife, starting from 7:00am this morning, Tuesday 13th May.

The announcement was made by the Directorate General of Emergencies, based on forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and other available data sources.

The pre-alert is issued in line with the Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena in the Canary Islands (PEFMA), which aims to ensure preparedness in the event of weather-related hazards.

According to Aemet’s forecast, persistent light to moderate rainfall is expected throughout the morning, with accumulated precipitation likely to exceed 60 litres per square metre over a 12-hour period.

In response to the forecast, the Tenerife Cabildo has advised the public to exercise caution, especially in areas expected to be most affected.

Authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary travel and being vigilant for potential flooding, surface runoff, or minor landslides.

The public are encouraged to stay informed via official channels as the situation develops.
