ACAT, the Canary Islands Association of Motorhomes and Campervans, has formally asked Arona Town Hall to explain the legal basis for parking signs that restrict certain public parking spaces to cars and motorcycles only.
They have submitted a written request seeking access to the administrative files, technical reports and legal documentation behind the installation of signs in various parts of the municipality, including Los Cristianos.
The association says it wants to ensure the restrictions comply with current legislation and are being applied using objective, transparent and non-discriminatory criteria.
Signs Found Across Los Cristianos
According to ACAT in Tenerife, the request follows a survey carried out in several areas of Los Cristianos, where members identified the signs on roads, including Avenida Ámsterdam, Avenida Juan Carlos I, Calle La Marea and Calle Arenas Blancas, among other locations.
As part of its submission, the association has provided a photographic report documenting the signs and has asked the council to disclose the administrative decision authorising their installation, a full list of affected streets and the criteria used when introducing the restrictions.
Seeking Legal Clarification
In a statement, ACAT stressed that it is not challenging the council's authority to regulate parking within the municipality, but wants to verify that the measures are supported by appropriate technical and legal justification, while respecting principles including legality, proportionality, legal certainty and equal treatment for all road users.
The association also said it hopes to maintain a constructive dialogue with Arona Town Hall to clarify the scope of the new parking measures and explore solutions that balance mobility, local residents' needs and responsible touring tourism.
At the time of writing, Arona Town Hall had not publicly responded to the association's request.
